“Persona du jour”

persona

1.

Art is always a self-portrait. “Artist creates art.” The subject of the sentence (the artist) is the subject of the object (the art) as well.

2.

Art is always desire objectified. The artist’s desire –sometimes made pleasant by anticipation or fantasy–  is a feeling of emptiness painted over.

3.

Art is always for sale; a seasonal mask in a shop — persona du jour — or a leased machine, better replaced than repaired, they say… they who buy and sell objects of desire… they who desire the objects not the desires.
